🍱✨Three Groups of Students Take on the Challenge! Cooking Practice at the School Lunch Center✨🐟
Last week, we held a cooking workshop at the Misato Town School Lunch Center! This time, 19 students from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Vietnam participated. 🌏✨ The three groups of students were quiet and shy, but it was impressive to see how hard they worked during the cooking practice. 😊
The dishes we made were: 🍚 Rice balls (Onigiri) 🥣 Shimeji mushroom, wakame seaweed, and tofu miso soup 🐟 Grilled salmon 🥗 Spinach with sesame dressing
During the cooking, most of the students worked quietly and diligently, but there were smiles when they made rice balls for the first time. 🍙✨ It was heartwarming to see them check with each other, wondering, “Is this okay?” Also, there was a boy who doesn’t seem like he’d normally cook, but he focused intently while boiling spinach, which surprised those around him. 😊💪
There were many small moments of excitement, like when the students learned the difference between kombu and wakame, and tasted the broth, saying, “It tastes like fish! It’s delicious!” Some students became curious about how to use the grill for fish, and others asked, “Why do you put shiso leaves on the plate?”—showing a quiet curiosity that deepened their learning about Japanese cooking and presentation. 🌿✨
As the cooking progressed, the students naturally divided up tasks and worked together, and by the end, they made sure to clean up thoroughly! Even though they’re usually shy and reserved, on this day, they stepped forward and showed a more active side of themselves!
Especially impressive was a student from Vietnam, Zung, who typically doesn’t stand out, but on this day, he took the lead and guided the team through the cooking process. It turns out his mother owns a restaurant, and we could really see his talent in action. ✨
🎉 A big thank you to everyone at the Misato Town School Lunch Center! Thanks to your careful preparation and warm support, the students were able to experience Japanese food culture and gain a lot of joy and learning. 💖 We look forward to next time!
