We joined the Autumn Festival of Tatsuta Taisha Shrine😊
On October 18 and 19, the Autumn Festival of Tatsuta Taisha Shrine was held in Sangō Town. On the 19th, students from Howdy Japanese Language School Nara had the special opportunity to help carry the mikoshi (portable shrine)!
It was a valuable cultural experience, and the students were absolutely thrilled ✨️ Dressed sharply in happi coats and hachimaki headbands, they learned how to carry the mikoshi and chant the traditional festival calls from the local neighborhood association before setting off!
They were fascinated by how different the energy and atmosphere were compared to festivals in their home countries. The sound of the mikoshi being carried and the beat of the taiko drums lit up their eyes with excitement ✨
It also became a great opportunity to connect with local residents—people they usually only greet in passing. The students were able to put their Japanese skills to good use! Many locals warmly reached out to them, saying things like, “Thanks for always greeting us!”, “It’s hot out—have something to drink!”, and “Let’s take a photo together!” Their kind words made the students so happy!
A heartfelt thank you to the Iwasegaoka Neighborhood Association for warmly welcoming our students.
We hope to join again next year! Moving forward, we’d love to continue enjoying Japanese culture and seasonal events together with the local community, helping our students grow through meaningful experiences and learning.
