🧡📘 We Attended the Dementia Supporter Training Course
In Sango Town, where Howdy Japanese Language School, Nara is located, the aging population is steadily increasing.
With the aim of helping international students understand that they, too, can contribute as members of the local community and of providing them with knowledge that can inspire positive action, the “Dementia Supporter Training Course” was held on January 29, organized by the Dementia Supporter Caravan ✨
On the day, students from Classes 1, 2, and 3 attended the course as part of their studies 📚
Although there were many difficult terms, the students followed along carefully with the handouts and remained fully focused throughout the session ✍️
At the end of the course, a hula dance performance was presented by “Noa Pilina,” a hula dance group formed by members of the Caravan Mates 🌺💃
The group was established with the desire to convey their message not only through words and role-playing, but also through dance.
It was a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience that left a lasting impression 🌈
After the course, some students reflected, saying, “I have encountered customers like those mentioned in today’s lecture at my part-time job, and I wasn’t sure how to respond.”
They also shared new insights such as, “Today’s lecture helped me learn the right way to speak to them,” and “I’m really glad I was able to understand how those customers feel,” based on their own real-life experiences 😊
Dementia is something that anyone can develop, regardless of age.
Although it is a familiar issue, it is often seen as someone else’s problem. Through this course, the students had the opportunity to understand it as a personal issue and to learn the importance of taking action—within their own capacity—when possible 🤝🌱
